Product description

HD Fury 8K Arcana 2 VRR 40Gbps is an HDMI adapter and splitter that handles video and audio signals in your home theater system in a way no other device can today. As the world's first 40Gbps VRR splitter, it functions as a passthrough, upscaler, or downscaler up to 120Hz, and extracts full audio from any HDMI source to send it to any audio system in the best possible formats. The device is designed to resolve compatibility issues between HDMI sources, displays, and audio systems, with support for eARC/ARC and HDMI audio extraction. It handles all existing video and audio signals, including VRR, Dolby Vision (DV), Low Latency Dolby Vision (LLDV), HLG, HDR10+, DTS:X, Dolby Atmos, and much more. Whether you are a home theater enthusiast, gamer, or professional installer, 8K Arcana 2 always ensures that the display gets the best possible picture and the audio system gets the best possible sound.

Demo units returned after the function was misunderstood.

A few scratches on the plastic; otherwise in like-new condition.

Sold with a full warranty.

  • Downscaling and upscaling: Accepts all FRL or TMDS signals and downscales 8K to 4K, 4K to 2K, or 8K to 2K at up to 120Hz. For upscaling, it supports 2K to 4K, 4K to 8K, and 2K to 8K at up to 120Hz (no upscaling for VRR, 1080i, 720p, or 480i/p).
  • VRR and HDMI 2.1: Unlocks true FRL/VRR on models such as Samsung Q90/QN900/QN95. Passes through all FRL/VRR signals and can downscale the secondary output for Philips Hue Sync or similar.
  • Maximum resolution and bandwidth: Up to 8K60 4:4:4/RGB 12-bit via DSC at 96Gbps, with full HDMI 2.1 passthrough up to FRL5: 40Gbps/1200MHz.
  • Complete audio extraction: Extracts full audio up to Dolby Atmos/TrueHD from any HDMI source (including VRR signals) and sends it to any HDMI, ARC, or eARC audio system, such as SONOS Arc & Beam 2.
  • Compatibility: Play Xbox One X games in 4K120 Dolby Vision on an LG C9, BX, or Sony HDMI 2.1 TV. Solves lip-sync problems with SONOS Arc/Beam 2 and external HDMI sources connected to an eARC TV. Sends DTS audio from the source to the sound system even if the TV does not support it.
  • CEC: Full CEC control from the TV to the source, volume control from the source to the eARC/HDMI audio system, and from the TV to the ARC/eARC system. Controlled with the TV's or source's remote control.
  • ARC/eARC: Extracts ARC/eARC from the TV's input to any ARC or eARC audio system.
  • Gaming and variable refresh rates: Handles 1080p120, 1440p120, 4K120, and all VRR signals from Xbox Series X, PS5, GPUs, and more.
  • Dolby Vision conversion: Plays DV content from LLDV-capable sources on any HDR10 display for improved picture quality.
  • HDCP conversion: Converts HDCP 2.3 to 1.4.
  • Signal modification: Adjusts chroma, color space, and color depth as needed. Raises or lowers nit values in HDR metadata in real time during HDR playback.
  • Display and control: Clear signal information on the OSD (On Screen Display) and OLED display. Navigate the menus with a rotary switch. USB Type-C for power, USB Type-A for updates via a USB flash drive, and RS232 for integration (not required for regular users).

How does it work?

8K Arcana 2 VRR is a converter that ensures HDMI sources (such as FUHD sources, Blu-ray players, UHD Blu-ray players, media players, satellite receivers, game consoles, PCs, etc.) work with displays and audio systems. On the hardware side, it features 1 HDMI input, 2 HDMI outputs with scaling options, 1 eARC output, USB-A for updates, USB-C for power, RS232, an OLED display, and a rotary switch for the menu. The input supports 4K and 8K VRR/HDR/HLG/DV/LLDV/HDR10+ up to FRL5/40Gbps/1200MHz for video, plus all audio formats currently available. The HDMI TX0 and HDMI COPY outputs support FRL5/VRR/40Gbps/1200MHz, upscaling/downscaling, and all audio formats.

In standard mode, the device operates as a splitter, passthrough, upscaler, or downscaler to optimize your system. The unique HDMI COPY output is flexible and can be configured to:

  • a) Split 2 signals up to FRL5 across 2 displays.
  • b) Send one signal up to FRL5 and downscale the other to TMDS for 4K FRL to 2K TMDS.
  • c) Pass through a signal up to FRL5, retain 4K, and adjust chroma/color depth from 4K FRL to 4K TMDS.
  • d) Pass through a signal up to FRL5 and extract full audio via a generated stream to feed a 1080p AVR.

In the software, EDID ensures that the best possible combination of TV video and audio capabilities is used (e.g., SONOS Arc). The device handles HDCP conversion, upscaling/downscaling, signal operations such as chroma, color depth, and color space, HDR metadata management, VRR, and audio extraction. It also lets you play DV from LLDV sources on HDR10 displays and adjust HDR nits in real time. All signal information is clearly displayed on the OLED or OSD.

The device is suitable for content creators, calibrators, streamers, digital entertainment centers, FUHD TVs, UHDTV stores, data centers, schools, conference rooms, and home theaters.

Getting started - Installation

One source + eARC: Connect the source's HDMI output to the 8K Arcana 2's HDMI input. Then connect Arcana's HDMI output to any projector, monitor, or display. Connect the eARC output to a SONOS Arc or similar device. If your display has an ARC/eARC input, you can also retrieve TV audio from it. The result is full audio up to Atmos/TrueHD from the HDMI source, an eARC signal for TV audio, and CEC volume control from the source or TV.

Multiple sources + eARC: Connect all sources to an HDMI switch (or receiver) and connect the switch's output to Arcana's HDMI input. Then continue as above. Use the HDMI COPY output to split or mirror the signal, downscale VRR for Hue Sync, capture cards, or lower-spec displays, or as an audio output for older AVRs with a 1080p stream and full audio.

Use HDMI cables supporting 40Gbps/1200MHz between the source and Arcana and between Arcana and the display (recommended: HD Fury, Cable Matters, Zeskit, KabelDirekt; min. 2 m, max. 4 m copper; use fiber for longer distances). For eARC to SONOS, ARC/eARC support is sufficient (such as that provided by the included SONOS cable).

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

  • What does it solve? eARC is an HDMI 2.1 feature for full audio up to Atmos/TrueHD, but many TVs, projectors, and monitors lack it. 8K Arcana 2 acts as an eARC TV: it receives HDMI signals and delivers full audio through the eARC output.
  • Can it upgrade my ARC TV to eARC? No, but it bypasses the limitation by extracting full audio from external HDMI sources.
  • Does it solve lip-sync problems? Yes. Unlike TVs that downmix or re-encode audio with a delay, Arcana handles EDID optimally to prevent lip-sync problems with SONOS Arc.
  • Volume control? CEC provides volume control from the TV's or source's remote control to the eARC/HDMI audio system. SONOS Arc can also learn IR signals from any remote control.
