Aune X8 is a dedicated D/A converter for anyone who wants to improve the sound from a computer, streamer, or CD transport without complicating the system. It is compact, well built, and designed to sit between the source and amplifier - or connect directly to active speakers via the volume-controlled pre-out.
NOTE! This is 1 demo unit of the Aune X8 DAC, the predecessor to the Aune X8 XVIII DAC.

At its core is Aune's own FPGA processing combined with an ES9038Q2M. The result is a clean, musical, and relatively relaxed sound that does not cause listening fatigue. USB supports PCM up to 32 bit / 768 kHz and native DSD512. Coaxial supports 24 bit / 384 kHz and DoP128, while optical supports 24 bit / 192 kHz and DoP64. The figures are impressive: SNR 117 dB, THD+N 0.0006%, output level 2.0 Vrms.
What makes the X8 unusual in its class is twofold. First, you can replace the operational amplifier and shape the tonal character - softer, more detailed, or more neutral. Second, it has seven digital filters (linear/minimum phase, fast/slow roll-off, apodizing, hybrid, and brickwall), allowing you to fine-tune the sound without additional software.
On the rear are USB-B, coaxial, and optical inputs, plus two pairs of RCA outputs: fixed line-out and volume-controlled pre-out. There is no Bluetooth and no balanced TRS - those were introduced with the successor, the X8 XVIII. The X8 is the pure, analogically simple version.
The chassis is made of aluminum, measures approximately 145 × 171 × 45 mm, and weighs around 2 kg. It takes up little space on a desk but feels solid. It works equally well with an integrated amplifier, active monitors, or a separate headphone amplifier (e.g. Aune X7s).
In short: a DAC that does what it should - converts digital to analog with high resolution, low noise, and the ability to fine-tune the sound to suit your taste.
